One Billion Rising – Solidarity against exploitation of women

NAWO, the European Women’s Lobby, and their members all over Europe will be #RISING on February 14th, taking a stand against the sexual exploitation of women and girls.

One Billion Rising is the largest mass action to end violence against women in human history. The campaign, launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women across the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime – a total of one billion women.

2017’s One Billion Rising takes the theme of Revolution, a theme that encompasses creative and artistic expression, multi-sectoral involvement, people from all walks of life and with all kinds of ideas in this demand for global revolution. Revolution ‘brings everyone from the personal to the political – from the “I” to the “We”. It harnesses collective energy because it is hopeful and envisions possibilities and a future’.

One Billion Rising: Revolution takes as its focus the exploitation of women and girls. This year, the aim is to present a unified front to governments, institutions of authority, and other positions of power, demanding a change in attitudes towards and legislation about exploitation worldwide.

Anyone can #RISE, anywhere, in any form, on Tuesday 14th November.
