Help us create a therapeutic refuge garden
In May 2015 IKWRO opened the first specialist refuge for Middle Eastern, North African and Afghan women fleeing “honour” based violence, forced marriage and domestic violence.
The women at our refuge have been through very traumatic experiences. Many are battling with depression. They are fearful about going to parks and public spaces as they are terrified that they might be found by their perpetrators.
Evidence demonstrates that gardening and spending time outdoors is very therapeutic and can help build confidence, raise self-esteem and empower women.
The good news is that there is some private outdoor space at the refuge, but currently it is completely bare with no plants or garden furniture. So we need your help!
Today we are launching a crowding appeal. Please donate to help us raise funds to create a lovely garden, a therapeutic, peaceful, safe space where survivors of violence can relax, eat outside on warmer days, exercise and enjoy growing flowers and herbs. |
