Availability of clean water and adequate sanitation is essential for the wellbeing of societies. Women and girls are disproportionately affected when water is scarce. Women’s opportunities are limited by their duties in water collection, and girl’s education is curtailed when sanitation is deficient. The search for water can increase the vulnerability of women and girls to violence.

This parallel event will look at the impact of climate change on availability of water and thus on women and girls. It will also explore examples of how women been helped to develop skills in water management, which have increased their life chances.
