NAWO at GLA
NAWO’s Vice Chair Barbara Cleary and Coordinator Tahereh Matjeko were delighted to attend the Women’s Resource Centre’s event on Friday 8th September with the Greater London Authority on the Mayor’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.
This is what the WRC said about the event:
“The discussions were seated in the knowledge that the characteristics of inequality affecting Women were highly complex and diverse and that there’s an increasing and disturbing trend to absorb these into generalist policy making and subsequent commissioning of services. And in doing so compounds the negative impact of these inequalities on Women and their families’ lives. WRC CEO Vivienne Hayes noted that as women include all the legally protected characteristics, then getting it right for all women will benefit everyone.”
“The overwhelming call to action is for the GLA to apply a gendered lens to all of its strategies and to carry out impact analysis on this basis could be the beacon of light for the most vulnerable and marginalised Londoners.”
Both Tahereh and Barbara felt that it was great to provide a collective call to action, drawing on the varied expert organisations and individuals’ insights that NAWO was a part of – and NAWO was very grateful to the Women’s Resource Centre for organising this valuable opportunity.
