Measuring up: How the UK is performing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Goal 5

For the past few months, NAWO has been involved in the researching, collection of data and preparation of the UKSSD report ‘Measuring Up’. UKSSD (UK Stakeholders for Sustainable Development) is a cross-sector network of organisations, working together to promote and encourage action on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The multi-stakeholder report that UKSSD have spearheaded provides a comprehensive picture of where the UK currently is in terms of Agenda 2030, in addition to highlighting future challenges, opportunities and recommendations for action. Each Sustainable Development Goal is featured in a dedicated chapter, and NAWO has been responsible for Chapter 5 on Gender Equality.

UKSSD hope that the report will help ensure that the government works with stakeholders from all sectors to develop the UK’s first Voluntary National Review for the UN High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in 2019. NAWO was only one of many fantastic contributors, with other chapters being tackled by organisations such as WWF, Earthwatch and the RSPB – to name a few.

There is no doubt that there is much to celebrate in terms of the UK’s position and the important work done is made clear in the report. However, there is still much work to be done to make Agenda 2030 a reality here at home – not least in terms of Gender Equality.
