Talk by Luz Macahilos Bador, ‘Women as First Responders’

ActionAid is pleased to be hosting a talk by Luz Bador, the First Vice President of the Pambansang Koalisyon ng Kababaihan sa Kanayunan (PKKK), or National Rural Women’s Coalition, a coalition of 350 rural women organizations and people’s organizations in the Philippines that advocates for the rights of women small farmers, fishers, indigenous women and workers in the informal economy. In the response to Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) PKKK was a key partner in implementing ActionAid’s women’s rights focus and delivering much needed assistance, livelihood training and information on disaster risk reduction. Luz Bador is also an elected Barangay Councilor in the Philippines, the Anti-VAW Desk Officer in her district, and was awarded as an Outstanding Barangay Kagawad by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in recognition to women’s leadership contribution to good governance. Luz will be speaking on her experiences of a women-led humanitarian response, and this event will be feeding back on the CSW event hosted by ActionAid and UN OCHA on gender equality and women’s empowerment in humanitarian settings (flyer can be downloaded by clicking here).
