CSW64 2020 hit by COVID-Pandemic

The Commission on the Status of Women was convened on the 9 March for a meeting which included opening statements followed by the adoption of the draft Political declaration. By 11th March the UN had been closed on safety grounds and the meeting suspended until the final session and the opening of the 65 th (2021) CSW took place in July 2020.

Many organisations and delegates had cancelled their participation but a few parallel events went ahead.

The Young Women’s Alliance had a full programme planned for the week which was adjusted to fit the circumstances. Several speakers joined at short notice to brief the young women on various aspects of CSW work. The GEO arranged for the group to have a briefing at the UK Mission from their policy adviser and negotiator for the European Union.

However, as New York closed down it became more and more difficult to continue.
