Regional Review Meeting CSW59, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, NGO Forum – 3rd – 5th November 2014

‘Every Woman, Every Right, Every Minute’ Geneva NGO Forum on Beijing +20 UN ECE Review.
This is the report that went this morning from the three-day NGO Forum held in Geneva at the UN attended by 700 NGO Members from across the region which includes Eastern Europe beyond the EU, Israel, the USA and Canada. It is part of the process leading to Beijing+20 next March (CSW59).
Among the UK-based organisations represented were: NIWEP, NIRWN (Northern Ireland Rural Women’s Network), Scottish Women’s Convention; Wales Assembly of Women, Women@theWell, SIGBI (Soroptimist International GB and Ireland), Action Aid, Christian Action, 28TooMany, Widows for Peace and Democracy, Un Women, UK Committee; Progressio; Mothers’ Union; Medical Women’s International Association, Equality Now, Help Age International, National Board of Catholic Women, plus Older Women’s Network, Europe; International YWCA, European Women Lawyers’ Association, the European Women’s Lobby,(BPW) Business and Professional Women and International BPW, International Council of Jewish Women, International Soroptimists, International Federation of University Women, Zonta International and Zonta club london ll, WAGGGS, International Council of Women. And NAWO.
There was a wonderful President of the Forum: Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda which was co-chaired with Zonta International’s `Main Representative at the UN, Geneva, Simone A.Ovart. It was an intense three days packed with major plenary events and round tables from 9am to 5 or 6 each day. Then the Interngovernmental Session was on for two days. Helene Reardon-Bond and Louise Sheridan are there from the GEO and Lynda Dearlove, NAWO and Women@the Well); Jackie Jones WAW; Elizabeth Law, NIWEP and Louise Coyle NIRWN; Elizabeth Sclater, OWN and NAWO; stayed on or arrived for this session.There will be a report from the Regional event to make up the pre-CSW reports and eventually the political statement that will be the outcome of the Meeting in March in New York.
